Event Details
The Thunderdrome!
The Thunderdrome is our racing series for pit bikes, mopeds, scooters, geared road bikes, fixies and mountain bikes.
The event is scheduled for October 16th, 2010. Doors open at 8:00AM, All Racers MUST be registered and checked in by 10:00AM and the races start at 11:30AM.
Here's
the concept, quick and dirty. This definitely doesn't cover all of
the rules – the full story is waiting for you at Thunderdrome.com. Part
1: Spectating Spectating
is always free – unless you'd like to donate to the cause and
become a Premium Donating Super Awesome Spectator. Premium Donating
Super Awesome Spectators donating over $5.00 get
access to our totally incredible Megatron VIP Viewing Area to watch
the race from and access to the pits. VIP Spectator passes also included access to our official afterparty with free beer sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon at Paper Street Motors - free. Cheapass
Standard Spectating will
always be free and we'll designate those areas at the race. Free spectators can still attend the official afterparty for just $5 at the door.
Part
2: The Classes
The "Homegrown Cycles" Mountain
Bike class is
for human-powered mountain bikes having sturdy construction.
Suspension is suggested, but not required. The course includes most
of the Velodrome and a grueling, super fast downhill portion with
roots and other obstacles. Finally, the mountain bikers will need to
huff out a long stretch along some very tiring grass sections. It's not nearly as bad as it sounds; weee!
The "Sweet Bikes" Geared Road
Bike class is
for human-powered bikes. Bike design, wheels and tires are totally open - brakes are required. Mountain bikes ARE allowed. The course is only
the Velodrome, but the Velodrome surface has some moderate cracks
that will change your racing line considerably. This ain't your average track event; be ready. The "You Can Sponsor This Class" Fixie class is for human-powered bikes and fixed gear - you know, one speed, and it keeps pedaling even when you don't - often to your detriment. Brakes are not allowed. The "1977 Mopeds Racing" Moped
class is
for engine-powered mopeds 75cc or smaller. Electric mopeds of similar
power to a 75cc engine or smaller will be accepted on a case-by-case
basis. Transmission and clutches are totally open and free to choose.
Pedals are optional, but extremely suggested based on the Le
Mans-style start. The Moped class runs on only the Velodrome, but the
surface is sure to give you some surprises to your line. Don't run it
if you can't break it, Sally. The "Enviromoto" Scooter
class. Everyone in this world seems to hate scooters - except that everyone also
loves to ride them. Scooters must be under 50cc and have a
single drive ratio. Electric scooters of similar power to a 50cc
engine or smaller will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Scooters
cannot have pedals. Be prepared for battle as the time for sissy
scootin' is over. Finally, the "You Can Sponsor This Class" Pit Bike class. This class is identical to the Scooter class except for a few key differences: You may have as many gears as you like, you can rock a clutch, manual or centrifugal, and wheel size is unlimited. Bike design is totally open, but we suggest a motard setup. We're still holding to the 50cc limit for this class; you'll have enough action on your hands to last you. There's also the "Vibrators.com" Powderpuff class; which isn't intentionally sexist, just accidentally. The top three female finishers will receive special prizes in addition to their winnings for their class. You can only imagine what we're giving away.

Every class awards prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Those same top 3 finishing racers will also leave with their very own handmade trophies wrought from junkyard bits and toolbox bobbles. While you’re at it, check out the “Powderpuff” bonus prizes awarded to the top three girl racers in any class. And lastly, we’ll also award surprise trophies and prizes for the best, the worst and the strange throughout the day. Just try and beat that. Really. Click here for the latest listing of prizes. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us at the information listed below.
